Summer Kaleidoscope – Mural Arts Program

1 Min Read

Philadelphia has some really great pop-up activities during the summer. There’s Spruce Street Harbor Park, the Independence Beer Garden, and the Independence Blue Cross River Rink (that’s roller skating this time of year). But probably the coolest and most beautiful summer pop-up location can be found at The Oval (Eakins Oval), and it has become a destination again this year. This week, the incredible mural Summer Kaleidoscope opened along with the Visit Philly Beer Garden and other yard activities. The Mural Arts Program commissioned Baltimore-based artists Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn (know as Jessie and Katey) to design and create a mural for the space at The Oval. What the duo came up with was a colorful and kaleidoscopic design that looks incredible from any angle and mind-blowing from above. Jessie and Katey led a team of 20 artists over five days to paint the 33,300 square foot area at The Oval with 813 gallons of paint. Don’t miss one of the coolest things to see and do in Philadelphia this summer. And check out the video below to see some of the artists at work on this stunning mural and the bird’s-eye view. Summer Kaleidoscope came together as a collaboration between the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, The Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Park Towne Place, and the City of Philadelphia.
