With the Health Hero Challenge, Be Well Philly and Philadelphia magazine promote the good work of individuals in the Philadelphia are that work to improve the health and fitness of their surrounding communities. This year, the second year of the challenge, hundreds of people were nominated by people in the Philadelphia region who value the nominees work. The Be Well Philly/Philadelphia magazine staff narrowed the hundreds of nominees down to sixteen semi-finalists. The Be Well Philly readership voted on those semi-finalists via Facebook to narrow the field down to four finalists. This years finalists included Dr. Alberto Esquenazi, a physician at MossRehab who works to help patients regain abilities lost in accidents; Leslie Marant, a coach and co-ambassador for Black Girls Run; Phyllis Sudman, a co-founder of Simon’s Fund; and Jeffrey Brous, a Zumba instructor and personal fitness trainer at Horsham Athletic Club. All of the finalists do incredible work and help inspire people to live healthier lives. Watch the videos below to hear each finalist’s personal story.
