Graduate Hospital – South Philly

Well, I meant to post a few more videos from the visitphilly.com’s Philadelphia Neighborhoods series, but time has gotten away. This video features Rakia Reynolds of Skai Blue Media explaining why she loves Graduate Hospital — the Philly neighborhood just south of South Street. I lived in the neighborhood from 2002-2004, and it has changed greatly. Graduate Hospital (named for the hospital between 18th & 19th on South) has had a major construction boom and revitalization in the last ten years. In addition, the neighborhood has seen an explosion of new restaurants and coffee houses. Its proximity to center city has made it a new hot spot for young professionals and for young parents as well. The famous American opera singer, Marian Anderson, was born and raised in this Philly neighborhood, and her house is a historical site. There is also a recreation center named for Marian Anderson between 17th & 18th on Catherine Street. Check out the video for Rakia’s top spots not to be missed in Graduate Hospital.

More on Philadelphia Neighborhoods

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) recently unveiled a new two-year campaign to promote fourteen different Philadelphia neighborhoods that are outside the typical Center City area. Since late December I’ve been working on several videos for this series. To find out more about the GPTMC Philadelphia Neighborhoods campaign or Philly neighborhoods in general, check out: visitphilly.com/philadelphia-neighborhoods/ or check out this Philadelphia Inquirer article about the Philadelphia Neighborhood campaign.
