A Raisin in the Sun – Bristol Riverside Theatre

1 Min Read

What happens when the American Dream crosses paths with racial inequality and economic struggles? Throw in a good amount of family drama, and you’ve got the plot line for A Raisin in the Sun, currently on stage at Bristol Riverside Theatre.

The setting is Chicago in the 1950s, and the Younger family has gotten a life insurance check. Should the family use it to invest in real estate? Pay for tuition? Fund a business? Nobody can agree on the answer in Lorraine Hansberry’s play, named after a line in a Langston Hughes poem.

Bristol Riverside Theatre’s production takes you front and center into the Young family’s turmoil as you watch them grapple with their financial dilemmas. As BRT is one of my theatre clients, I got to take a sneak peek at the engaging performance.

The show, directed by Lisa Strum, runs through February 18th at the theatre located on the banks of the Delaware River in Bristol. In honor of Black History Month, the theatre is hosting Black Theatre Night on February 16 to celebrate Black voices in theatre.
